2.4 X-ray examinations

X-ray examinations represent an imaging technique that can be used to visualize even the most minute structures within the body. The tissues are visualized with X-ray beams, a process that suffers the drawback of a high radiation dose. To improve visibility, contrast media containing iodine or barium are used for certain types of X-ray examinations, such as for example in the case of gastrointestinal passage described below.
