Medial inguinal hernia

Also called [no-glossary]direct inguinal hernia[/no-glossary]. A medial (= running parallel to the midline of the body) inguinal hernia is never congenital, but always acquired. It directly penetrates the anterior abdominal wall, which is damaged due to tissue weakness. The hernial orifice is the lateral inguinal fossa in the region of Hesselbach’s triangle, which is a muscle-free area.
